The creative force behind Studio Maui was New Zealand native Geordie Jahner, Ph.D who began studying dance at the age of 5. In the 1980's Geordie helped put 'Limbs' (New Zealand's foremost modern dance company) on the world map. Her dream was to build a world-class facility that would provide consistent high quality movement and arts education for students of all levels and a beautiful community space where people could tend body and soul.
With the support of her husband Richard and a group of friends and angel investors (see list below), Geordie managed to build and open Studio Maui in April 2004. In April 2009 Geordie passed the baton to Pier Paolo de Angelis, an experienced entrepeneur who had also served as Chairman of Kripalu -the largest Program Center in North America- in the mid 90's. At the time Geordie announced her intention to retire, Pier Paolo was in the process of starting an Institute for Personal Transformation on Maui and saw the opportunity to merge the two projects.
In the last year, Studio Maui has expanded its range of programs and services incorporating spiritual studies and Hawaiian culture and has launched the Ohana Circle, a community oriented program, geared to the creation of a network of conscious people and businesses. As part of the expansion plan, Studio Maui is currently engaged in developing alliances with satelllite locations in order to offer residential workshops and retreats and therefore grow its reach outside the local boundaries and demographics.
