ANUSARA YOGA
John Friend

Our Anusara program is teacher training program and immersions, packed with daily classes on our schedule.

What is the Anusara 108 Immersion.......

Satchitanada... The Sanskrit word that means we are all Pulsing energy of Truth Consciousness and Bliss.
The Anusara Immersion is an amazing opportunity to dive into Yoga as a path to Self Awareness and Conscious living, a profound journey into the study of Asana, Philosophy, Pranayama and Meditation. The Immersion is perfect for those wishing to delve into the mysteries and profound practices of yoga. The Immersion allows us the time to slow down and go deep into the heart.....and discover and rediscover the joy of living in Harmony with Nature. The immersion is open to any one who really wants to learn the ART , SCIENCE AND ETHICS of Yoga.

All students will receive the Anusara Immersion manual. We will explore Anusara's Universal Principles of Alignment and Anusara's Level 1 & 2 Syllabi. There will be a suggested reading list, journaling suggestions and optional projects. When not in session, students are encouraged to join study groups that meet weekly to practice and go over suggested assignments, and to practice regularly with local inspired and certified Anusara teachers.

The 108 hour immersion is broken down into Three Parts.
PART ONE
An in-depth exploration of the Universal Principles of Alignment (the 3 A's, the 5 Steps and the 7 Loops), and introduction to the use of props
Basic Anusara Yoga philosophy overview, Fundamentals of Practice, Ethical Precepts, Basics of Studentship and Overview of the History of Yoga
Elemental anatomy and anatomy of the breath
Fundamental pranayama, meditation, journaling, and contemplation
Introduction to all the poses from Anusara's Level 1 syllabus
If you are a yoga teacher or would like to begin teaching, Part One,includes everything a teacher training would offer and more! We just leave the "how-to's" of teaching to Teacher Training, when the time is right. 36 hours.

PART TWO
A complete review of the Principles and Level 1 Syllabus
A plunge into the more subtle aspects of the Universal Principles of Alignment (the 3 A's, the 5 Steps and the Loops)
Introduction to Asana sequencing
Intermediate pranayama, meditation, and contemplation
Continued Anusara Philosophy including the Tattvas, the Elements, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and Studentship on the path
Kinesiology and subtle body anatomy (kundalini, chakras, nadis & koshas)
An introduction to Anusara's Level 2 Syllabus
If you have already participated in an Immersion with a certified Anusara Teacher, this phase will take you to the next level of personal growth, self-study and depth in the practice. If you are a yoga teacher or would like to begin teaching, Part Two, includes everything a teacher training would offer and more! We just leave the "how-to's" of teaching to Teacher Training, when the time is right. 36 hours.

PART THREE
A complete review & exploration of the Principles and Level 1&2 Syllabi
An even more in-depth exploration of the subtle aspects of the Universal Principles of Alignment
Intermediate/advanced pranayama, contemplation and specific meditation techniques
The Bhagavad Gita and the integration of Karma, Jnana & Bhakti Yoga
More on the Kinesiology of main muscle groups
Once this last phase is completed, the Level One Anusara Teacher Training is the next step, for those wishing to teach. You will also receive a certificate of completion. 36 hours.

Should I take an Immersion or a Teacher Training?
Take a 108-hr Immersion first! Then if you feel ready, apply for a teacher training! The Immersion is designed to provide a solid foundation of practical understanding for all serious students of Anusara Yoga, and for those students who wish to enter into teacher training. The process of being in an Immersion prepares you fully on all levels: Refines your knowledge of Anusara Yoga, gives you experience on the path, and helps you develop the self-confidence necessary to become a teacher of this sophisticated system of yoga. The Anusara Immersion will give us all the opportunity to establish a new depth of commitment to our selves and each other. Knowing that the process of yoga is continuous, when the time is right, a teacher training may be a culmination of your efforts and study, not the beginning of the journey!

Are there Pre-requisites for the Immersion?
Before entering a Part I Immersion, Anusara Yoga students should have taken some Anusara Public classes and have the inspiration to go deeper into the Practice. If you have been studying Anusara for years, you may enter Parts 2 or 3 with out first completing Part 1 with prior permission from the teacher.)
What are the Pre-Requisites for Teacher Training in Anusara Yoga?
To become an Anusara-trained teacher, a 108-hr Immersion is the pre-requisite for acceptance into any Anusara teacher training nationwide. Because Level 1 Teacher Trainings will now only accept those who have taken 108 hrs of Immersion, this ensures that when it is time do teacher training, the teacher trainer will know every applicant, and teaching methodology will be learned alongside other knowledgeable, mature and sophisticated practitioners.

The Immersion will count as hours toward an eventual certificate in Anusara Yoga. Each part of the Immersion counts as 36 hours. To augment your process, we suggest attending public classes: 4x week with your local affiliated and certified Anusara Yoga teachers.

Participation: We strongly recommend participating in all 3 Parts for the full benefit of this experience, and to meet the prerequisite for each subsequent Part. However, if you can only commit partially, you may join in on individual weekends pending Skeeter and Sundari’s permission. Dedicated Anusara students who have many hours under their belt or Inspired Anusara teachers, may jump in at any phase,
Completion: Once you have successfully finished all three parts of the 108-hour Immersion, you will be eligible to apply for a Anusara Teacher Training....where you will learn how to teach Anusara.

ANUSARA YOGA CLASS SCHEDULE
JOHN FRIEND on Anusara Yoga
John Friend

Anusara
(a-nu-sar-a), means “flowing with Grace,” “flowing with Nature,” “following your heart.”

Founded by John Friend in 1997, Anusara yoga is a school of hatha yoga which unifies a life-affirming Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness with Universal Principles of Alignment. Anusara yoga is growing quickly all over the world with over 250 certified teachers, 750 licensed Anusara-Inspired yoga teachers, thousands of teachers in training, and hundreds of thousands of students world-wide. Anusara yoga now has a presence on every continent throughout the world, excluding Antarctica.

Anusara yoga's remarkable growth is due in large part to its uplifting philosophy, epitomized by a "celebration of the heart" that looks for the good in all people and all things. Consequently, students of all levels of ability and yoga experience are honored for their unique differences, limitations, and talents. This celebratory vision sets the basis for a yoga school in which the harmony and joy of a tightly knit community of highly trained teachers and fun-loving students is exalted. This community feels like it has the tightness of a family, yet the looseness of a merry band of bohemian artists.

The Anusara yoga community is well networked and organized, yet there is a strong emphasis on creative freedom and individuality. Anusara yoga is held together by everyone's implicit alliance to the spiritual principles of Anusara yoga philosophy, such as celebrating beauty in all its diversity, truthfulness, and honoring the creative freedom of the Divine in all beings. Everyone is aligned with the truth that Grace plays the key role in the successful flow of their practice, classes, and the community itself. Without a rigid dogma, the school is open to continual change and restructuring. Self-examination, discovery, and receptivity to new ideas are foundational to this dynamic system. Individual creativity and investigation are always encouraged within the bounds of basic alignment principles and philosophic precepts of Anusara yoga. Anusara yoga grows with harmony and integrity through the combined vision of our Anusara yoga teachers to unveil the innate goodness, worthiness, and Supreme nature of each student and every being.

Anusara yoga's remarkable growth is due in large part to its uplifting philosophy, epitomized by a "celebration of the heart," that looks for the good in all people and all things.

The harmony of the Anusara yoga community is also maintained by adhering to a set of ethical guidelines. All Anusara yoga teachers are required to follow these ethical guidelines in order to maintain their teaching license as an Anusara yoga teacher. Please feel free to view these Ethical Guidelines as well as Anusara’s Ethical Grievance Procedure.
